Shani Aarti
When the lamp is circled before Shani Dev at the close of worship, this is what is sung. Five short couplets, kept in households across India. Here they are in full, as they are sung.

About these verses
Each couplet closes with जय जय, which the assembly answers, which is why it is printed at the end of every second line rather than sung only once at the start.

A reminder on Saturday morning
Shanivar is his day. We will write once a week, before it begins, and before the days that matter for Shani Dev. Nothing else, and one click stops it.
The Aarti has been recited in countless households and printed in many editions. If the words you keep differ a little from these, your reading is not wrong - it is another line of the same living tradition.
About this text and where it comes from
We publish the aarti as it appears in the Shani Chalisa Arati Sahit tradition, opening जय जय श्री शनिदेव भक्तन हितकारी. Printed booklets differ in small spellings, such as दिपत/दीपत and असवारी/सवारी, without changing the sense.
- Primary
- sanskritdocuments.org. Shani Chalisa with the aarti on the same page, in Devanagari.
- Corroborating
- Shani Chalisa Arati Sahit, Amit Pocket Books, Jalandhar. Page scans consulted directly; that booklet's OCR text is unreliable and was not used.
When you cannot be there in person
Have this recited in your name, in India.
We perform the Shani puja with your name and gotra stated in the sankalp, and send you the recording. Something you can watch, not something you have to take on trust.
